Pressure on to add electronic system
With $17 billion in federal money up for grabs beginning in 2011, many physicians plan to acquire a qualified electronic health record system this year. The sooner, the better, IT experts agree, because physicians not only have to acquire or upgrade a system to meet the requirements but must show “meaningful” use to qualify for the subsidy. Fraud rampant in healthcare organizations
As the debate over national healthcare reform wages on, another topic has started to receive attention. Healthcare fraud is running rampant. The National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association estimates 3-10 percent of the nation’s annual healthcare outlay is lost to fraud and abuse. Red Flags Rule deadline extended
A new rule requires certain creditors, including physicians, to protect consumers by developing and implementing written programs to identify, detect and respond to warning signs of identity theft. The deadline for implementation has been delayed until June 1, 2010. (2/2/2010)
